Universal dissipation scaling for nonequilibrium turbulence.

چکیده
It is experimentally shown that the nonclassical high Reynolds number energy dissipation behavior, C(ε)≡εL/u(3)=f(Re(M))/Re(L), observed during the decay of fractal square grid-generated turbulence (where Re(M) is a global inlet Reynolds number and Re(L) is a local turbulence Reynolds number) is also manifested in decaying turbulence originating from various regular grids. For sufficiently high values of the global Reynolds numbers Re(M), f(Re(M))~Re(M).

Nonequilibrium scalings of turbulent wakes
The most basic and arguably most important property that any theory or model of turbulence must predict is the mean flow profile. A model or theory of turbulence which can do this for a wide range of turbulent flows on the basis of only few fundamental and robust assumptions is still lacking. However, in the case of canonical boundary-free turbulent shear flows such as turbulent jets, wakes, an...
متن کاملStatistical properties of driven Magnetohydrodynamic tur- bulence in three dimensions: Novel universality
– We analyse the universal properties of nonequilibrium steady states of driven Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence in three dimensions (3d). We elucidate the dependence of various phenomenologically important dimensionless constants on the symmetries of the two-point correlation functions. We, for the first time, also suggest the intriguing possibility of multiscaling universality class varyi...
متن کاملSimilarity scaling of turbulence spectra and cospectra in a shallow tidal flow
[1] Measured turbulence power spectra, cospectra, and ogive curves from a shallow tidal flow were scaled using Monin‐Obukhov similarity theory to test the applicability to a generic tidal flow of universal curves found from a uniform, neutrally stable atmospheric boundary layer (ABL). While curves from individual 10 min data bursts deviate significantly from similarity theory, averages over lar...
متن کاملLinks between dissipation, intermittency, and helicity in the GOY model revisited
High resolution simulations within the GOY shell model are used to study various scaling relations for turbulence. A power-law relation between the second-order intermittency correction and the crossover from the inertial to the dissipation range is confirmed. Evidence is found for the intermediate viscous dissipation range proposed by Frisch and Vergassola. It is emphasized that insufficient d...
متن کاملScaling and dissipation in the GOY shell model
This is a paper about multifractal scaling and dissipation in a shell model of turbulence, called the Gledzer-Ohkitani-Yamada (GOY) model. This set of equations describes a one-dimensional cascade of energy towards higher wave vectors. When the model is chaotic, the high-wave-vector velocity is a product of roughly independent multipliers, one for each logarithmic momentum shell. The appropriat...
